Our experience was nothing short of amazing, from my first interaction with Susan, the banquet host to the service staff the staff made my mom’s 70th birthday so memorable. The food was delicious and the room was set up beautifully (jut a little chilly ). Our vision came to life. Thank you Scrementi’s!
Overview
Walking into Scrementi's Restaurant, Banquets & Catering feels like stepping into a place where time slows down and comfort food takes the lead. I’ve stopped by more times than I can count, sometimes for a quick weekday lunch, other times for family celebrations that needed more space and a lot more food. Sitting right at 3760 Chicago Rd, Steger, IL 60475, United States, it’s one of those local spots people mention casually, then insist you try because they know you’ll be back.
The menu reads like a greatest-hits list of classic American and Italian-inspired diner favorites. Think fresh salads, hearty sandwiches, pastas that don’t skimp on sauce, and homestyle dinners that arrive hot and generous. On my last visit, the baked mostaccioli came out bubbling, clearly finished in the oven rather than rushed, and the sauce tasted balanced instead of overly sweet. That attention to process matters. According to National Restaurant Association research, consistency and portion value are two of the top reasons diners return to neighborhood restaurants, and this place checks both boxes naturally.
What stands out is how the kitchen handles volume without losing quality. During busy weekend hours, I’ve watched staff coordinate orders with calm efficiency. Plates hit tables quickly, and nothing feels thrown together. That’s especially important when you’re feeding groups, which explains why the banquet and catering side of the business has such a strong reputation. I attended a graduation banquet hosted here where over 80 guests were served on time, with hot entrées and attentive refills. The catering team worked from a clear plan, checking dietary preferences and adjusting portions on the fly. Those real-world details are what separate reliable caterers from risky ones.
Local reviews often mention friendly service, and that’s not hype. Servers remember repeat customers, offer suggestions without pushing, and handle special requests with ease. One night I asked about modifying a pasta dish for a lighter option, and the server walked me through alternatives instead of just saying no. That kind of interaction builds trust. Harvard Business Review has noted that personalized service increases customer satisfaction and long-term loyalty, especially in independent restaurants.
The banquet spaces deserve attention too. They’re flexible enough for weddings, retirement parties, or corporate dinners, with layouts that don’t feel cramped. Lighting stays warm, acoustics are manageable, and staff coordinate timing so speeches and meals don’t clash. It’s clear there’s experience behind the scenes, not guesswork. While no venue is perfect, peak-season availability can be limited, so planning ahead is smart if you’re eyeing a popular date.
What I appreciate most is how the restaurant balances being a casual diner with a full-service event location. That dual role isn’t easy. Many places do one well and struggle with the other, but here the same standards apply whether you’re grabbing dinner or hosting a 100-person event. The location makes it easy for guests coming from nearby towns, and parking has never been an issue in my experience.
If you’re the type who checks reviews before trying somewhere new, you’ll notice a pattern: people talk about portion sizes, dependable flavors, and events that run smoothly. Those aren’t flashy trends, but they’re the foundations of a place that lasts. In a dining landscape where concepts come and go, this restaurant sticks to what works while still adapting to modern expectations. Bold phrases like family-style comfort, generous portions, and stress-free events come up often in conversations for a reason, because they reflect what diners actually experience at the table.

Great food, very friendly staff, and a very beautiful and romantic atmosphere. Not very spacious at the entrance but we made it work. The dining room was easier to maneuver.
Love that they offer tall glasses of wine and do something different with the bread instead of the traditional oil and cheese. The olive tapenade is so good. There was a group of us and our waitress Vanessa was great. She checked on us regularly and accommodated requests. I also love that they offer soup, salad and the entree and you do not have to choose. The food was pretty good, but for the price it could have been better. I personally thought the decor was pretty out dated and drab. However, it would not keep me from going back. It was my 1st time here and I would go back to try a different dish.
My wife and I drove in from Arkansas to see my sister and wanted to take her for dinner somewhere very nice. See immediately exclaimed SCREMENTI'S!!!! We were celebrating her 80th birthday and hadn't seen her in 40 years. (Long story....) WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT HERE. MADE ME WISH WE WERE STILL BACK IN CHICAGO I have the chicken vesuvio which was absolutely out of this world delicious. Wifey had the lasagna which she thoroughly enjoyed. The hostess served my sister, Veronica, a huge slice of a delicious lemon pie complete with a candle and three forks. If I lived in town I'd be here at least twice a week.
Great evening started with cocktails at the bar served by the beautiful Michelle. Then on top an amazing dinner of beef tenderloin, T-bone steak, chicken Romano and calamari. With salad and soup served with warm crusty bread. You need to make an evening at Scrementi's!!!!
I have been here twice in two weeks. The food is excellent. Everything is scratch made and every detail is covered. They never disappoint, they never have. The drinks are well poured and the service is top notch. Well done!
Can’t beat the service! Everything comes at the right time. The food is always fresh and flavorful. The staff is extremely attentive to your needs. Ordered the shrimp linguine and chicken piccata. This place is special! Definitely a repeat place. There’s a always something be to try even their buffet Monday through Friday.
The food was fabulous. I had ravioli w/meatball, beef barley soup and salad. My friend had chicken parmesan w/angel hair pasta, cream of asparagus soup and salad. Bread was delicious with chopped olives and tomatoes. Service was great and the atmosphere was also great.
